Easy and Fun Star-Spangled Slime
SLIME! My little kid was introduced to watching slime videos…. by me. I actually enjoy watching them too. So it’s not a bad gig. But he loooooves it. I can understand it because I loved playing with something similar when I was a kid. This is a great way to keep kid’s entertained indoors. Plus, it’s a great sensory activity! Let’s make some slime!
You’ll need three things for the base recipe: baking soda, clear washable craft glue, and contact solution. Make sure that the contact solution contains boric acid and sodium borate. If it doesn’t, it won’t react the way you need it to in order to make the slime (I’ve tried).
First, mix the glue and the baking soda together. I used a silicone covered spoon and it made cleanup so much easier. Keep mixing until you don’t see any lumps. Next, add the contact solution teaspoon by teaspoon. After each teaspoon, you need to mix to make sure it’s at the correct consistency. I like to mix 3 teaspoons of contact solution into our slime. It turns out being stretchy while not sticking to your fingers easily. The way I like to measure its “doneness” is by sticking my fingers into it. If they leave an imprint but don’t stick to my fingers, it’s finished.
The glitter I used for this project came in this fun multi-pack that I bought from Walmart’s craft section.
For the colorant, I used food coloring. A little goes a long way, so I only used a couple of drops each.
These little stars were my favorite. Definitely using them for more projects!
This is what I ended up with. The white section was made with white craft glue. The blue and red sections were made with clear glue.
After I brought the boy down from his nap/quiet time, he was instantly interested in this new slime. I love the way it turned out! It was super fun to make and he had a great time with it. I’m glad I finally found a recipe that works for us. Let me know if you try this out and if you have any tips for making slime!
