Atlanta Children’s Museum: How to Have the Best Time

We drove to Atlanta for my husband’s jujitsu competition. My in-laws drove in from the west to meet us there for some fun family time. One of the things on our to-do list was the Children’s Museum of Atlanta. We’ve been to several children’s hands on museum, but knew this was probably the largest one that we’ve been to.

Tip 1: Arrive early

We arrived just as the doors were opening on a Sunday during summer vacation. At some point, it was absolutely packed with kids because of birthday parties. After morning church services ended (we are in the South, after all) there was an influx of more families. There are classes for certain age groups. If you want to make sure your child/children get into the classes of the day, sign up earlier in the day. So, if you want to have a less-crowded, more enjoyable time, arrive early.

Tip 2: Pack Food

I always bring food wherever I go, because my toddler eats ALL THE TIME. But it might be a good idea to pack a lunch. The upstairs area had cafeteria style tables and vending machines for easy snack time. Our family brought a sandwich picnic to save money. The bonus was that we didn’t have to leave the museum and hunt for restaurants. It was a nice break in between the chaos.

Tip 3: Carry Hand Sanitizer

If your kid is anything like mine, carrying hand sanitizer is a MUST. He touches everything and still tries to put random things in his mouth. Thankfully, most of the exhibits have a little bag that you can put items that ended up in mouths into. One point worth mentioning: Not all of the bathrooms are equipped with changing tables. I went to change our toddler in one of the “family bathrooms” downstairs and was pretty upset that they 1)didn’t have a regular changing table 2)didn’t have a changing table for older children or adults. This is a children’s museum in a large city and should be inclusive to everyone. In 2018, people shouldn’t have to hunt for specific bathrooms in the US.

Tip 4: Have Fun

There’s a bunch of exhibits to enjoy at the museum. Since we arrived early and packed lunch. We were able to enjoy the museum for a much longer time. If we’re in the area again, we would definitely go to this again.
